Summary

Merit Automotive Electronics Systems is a global supplier of advanced mechatronic modules and switches for the automotive industry. Founded in Germany in the 1940s, Merit has been operating as an independent company headquartered in Barcelona, with a research center in Krakow and production facilities in various locations around the world.

The task of Transition Technologies PSC was to update the Codebeamer system – a platform used for Application Lifecycle Management (ALM), which enables advanced product and software development and management – to the latest version, as well as provide consulting on automation capabilities and future improvements at Merit Automotive Electronics Systems. An important aspect of this project was enhancing Codebeamer’s integration capabilities with PLM systems.

Challenges

Preparing and testing the system on the client’s side and preparing the staff for upcoming migration changes.
Synchronizing new update packages from the system manufacturer, PTC, with the client’s production environment.
Adapting to the client’s working mode and minimizing disruptions: the update could only be performed during weekends or non-working days.

Solution

Exporting the MySQL database schema to a single file and transferring it to the new server.
A multi-step process for updating the Codebeamer software version, including necessary library and database migrations and complex functional testing.
