Summary
Global leader in cybersecurity needed to modernize one of its flagship products — the Privileged Access Management (PAM) system. This software, serving as the foundation of the company’s product portfolio, had not been updated in over seven years. To retain its market leadership and improve operational efficiency, the company chose to partner with TT PSC — a technology provider with a proven track record in modernizing large-scale legacy systems.
Challenges
- The main challenge was maintaining the strategically important but outdated PAM system, which led to rising maintenance costs and reduced agility in meeting market and customer demands.
- A codebase had not been updated in over seven years, leading to a heavy operational burden, and the process of implementing new features or patches was time-consuming and expensive.
- The system’s technological inflexibility and lack of native cloud integration (AWS, Azure, GCP) limited scalability and added complexity.
- Also user experience (UX) fell short of modern expectations. An outdated interface discouraged users, reduced productivity, and lengthened internal workflows.
- An additional constraint was the lack of telemetry data — insights into which features were actively used and which could be safely deprecated. Without this visibility, product lifecycle management was inefficient.
- High Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) — existing system generated disproportionate operational and infrastructure expenses while delivering decreasing business value.
Solutions
TT PSC implemented a comprehensive PAM system modernization program based on a modular and iterative approach. The primary objective was not only to update the legacy infrastructure but also to lay a solid foundation for future product development.
1. Full DevOps and build process modernization: TT PSC modernized the software development and deployment processes by adopting up-to-date third-party libraries and integrating automation through CI/CD toolchains.
2. Strategic release planning and lifecycle management: working closely with the client, TT PSC developed a release schedule and a structured approach to feature deprecation. A continuous and safe deprecation model was implemented, based on impact analysis and telemetry data.
3. Thoughtful technology migration strategy: each system module was analyzed and transformed individually. TT PSC reengineered features to align with secure, supported technologies — both in the backend (C/C++, .NET, Go, Java, Python) and the frontend (Angular, modern UI).
4. UX/UI redesign focused on accessibility and multiplatform support: redesigned user interface was developed with accessibility (WCAG compliance), responsiveness, and usability in mind, allowing the application to function seamlessly across devices.
5. Simplified integration with the IT ecosystem: modernized solution was equipped with APIs, SDKs, and ready-to-use integrations, enabling fast compatibility with DevOps tools, third-party platforms, and CI/CD environments.
Results
- Strengthened security and regulatory compliance
By incorporating advanced AI/ML-based threat detection, zero-trust architecture principles, and real-time monitoring, the system achieved certification for the U.S. Department of Defense Approved Product List (DoD APL). This distinction reflects the highest standards of cybersecurity and served as a competitive advantage in both public and enterprise procurement processes.
- Modern user experience (UX)
The newly designed, responsive user interface improved solution accessibility, streamlined user onboarding, and enhanced team productivity, especially within IT and operational departments.
- Full cloud readiness and scalable architecture
The system architecture was redesigned in line with cloud-native principles, enabling seamless deployments in on-premises, cloud, and multi-cloud environments (AWS, Azure, GCP). This provided the client with the ability to scale services in response to customer demand.
- Reduced total cost of ownership (TCO)
The new architecture, combined with automated maintenance and deployment processes, led to a measurable reduction in operational costs.
- Accelerated innovation and business agility
Thanks to TT PSC’s modular modernization approach (module by module, function by function), the client regained the ability to rapidly introduce new features, test product hypotheses, and implement improvements without disrupting system stability. This significantly increased organizational agility and reduced time-to-market for innovation
